Fr3sh performed once more on the season finale of ABDC.

We are Heroes won! Congrats, ladies.

EZE

Why, China, why?

With Iran flexing its military muscles and the recent publicization of Iran's second hidden nuclear facility, western powers are aiming at more sanctions on trade with Iran if this Thursday's meeting in Geneva prove fruitless. Current viable sanctions include sanctions on foreign investment in Iran's oil and gas and import-export sectors, blacklisting more Iranian banks and firms run by the Revolutionary Guards, divesting from firms that trade with Iran, and banning export credits.

Eastern powers have a different stance though. Russia currently provides Iran with nuclear technology and China imports crude oil from Iran to sell back the refined product. Any sort of sanctions that western powers might put in place would directly affect Russia and China's bottom-line.

Recent language from Russia's Medvedev sound promising saying that further sanctions, while "seldom productive, are sometimes inevitable." Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has been quoted as saying "I am convinced restraint is needed," whatever the hell that means. It should be noted that Russia is being seen as more open to santions on Iran recently.

The biggest roadblock to more sanctions on Iran is China. With China's increasing demand for energy and reliance on crude oil imports from Iran, any sanctions that might go through would be likely to be watered-down and less harsh than Western countries would like. It should be noted though, that China has already supported three rounds of sanctions on Iran and if the second nuke facility in Qom proves to be non-peaceful as Iran alleges, it is likey they will support tougher sanctions. If China is ultimately concerend with cash flow from the middle east, its goal should be long-term stabilization of the area. Nuclear proliferation in the area will only destabilize the area in the long-run and run up the price of crude oil.

We'll see what happens in Geneva this Thursday.

I know I haven't posted in a while. I've been kind of busy with work and what not. But hopefully this post will entertain you enough to make up for it. Master Wong is a self defense trainer who curses. He is awesome.

Y.E. Yang topples the Tiger!

The first Asian man to win the PGA championship...because you know Tiger don't consider himself Asian =D

Y.E. Yang upsets Tiger and the rest of the golf world to take the trophy. What better person to sport some Nike duds now than the guy described as "20 to 1" underdog?

Abracadabra!

The Korean girl group Brown Eyed Girls has this song called Abracadabra. This is the video. I enjoyed it very much. Here is some info about it from their wiki page:

"The release of the "Abracadabra" music video has sparked a lot of controversy. As the group is sporting a substantially more provocative visual style, criticism has arisen for the suggestive and erotic themes that the video presents."

Wat Misaka - a hero I never knew?

I want to thank Angry Asian Man for pointing out this story. This is actually a pretty personal discovery to me as both of an Asian-American and a fan of basketball.

Quite frankly, one of the reasons I started this blog was to spread awareness, and the urge to spread awareness came about because of my own lack there of. I'll tell you straight up there was probably a point in my life when I was young when I wanted to be in the NBA. And soon after the likes of Wang Zhi Zhi, Mengke Bateer, and Yao Ming entered the NBA. To me- they were the first Asian basketball players ever. I hadn't heard of any big name Asian players in the past. I collected basketball cards and could tell you an entire rookie class from years before I was even born, but I had never known who the real first Asian basketball player was- let alone the first man of color ever drafted in the NBA...

Wat Misaka.

Many of the greatest basketball players have been of African-American decent, a lot of them my heroes, and yet even before they came into the league Wat was drafted. Drafted #1 nontheless AND by my favorite team the New York Knicks! I was shocked. I was stunned. I was dissapointed.

How have I never even heard of this guy? My father, who also was a big basketball fan (yet born after 1947 when Wat was drafted) had never mentioned him either. Could it be the fact that he was only a player for three days before being released? I'm not sure. But he was a big star in college on Utah helping them win a national championship (you have to be pretty good to be drafted first). ***at least most of the time right Michael Oliwakandi? And he is still the first man of color to play in the NBA! That means something!

Wat's story is now being portrayed in a documentary film: Trancending- The Wat Misaka Story

I will do my best from here on out to make people aware that I love basketball and Wat Misaka is someone I look up to. m00g00.

Jay Chou as Kato in the new Green Hornet film

Could you see it?

The Green Hornet was a TV show in the 70's. He was a crime-fighter who had a sidekick named Kato, notably known as Bruce Lee's first major American role. You could probably compare them to Batman and Robin in a strange sort of way.

Jay Chou is a Taiwanese pop-star who has recently been cast as the role of Kato for the film adaptation starring Seth Rogen. I wonder how Chou will hold up playing a role Bruce Lee used to play...Is he badass enough? He is a huge star overseas, but this role may be ground-breaking for the second time by exposing Chou to American audiences. I wouldn't necessarily count this announcement as one "set in stone" since the likes of Stephen Chow and many others have also been rumored to be casted at one time or another.

Rogen and Chou? m00g00.

Tribute to Filipina Girls

Pinay ladies are indeed quite lovely.

And the Black Eye Peas think so too with their new song "Mare". Band member "apl.de.ap" is incorporating his Filipino background into the group's music. A very catch tune you should checkout:

A message from the kids...

According to one of the comments on the video's page this is actually a Malaysian ad to promote national unity and reduce racial tension amongst the Chinese and Malaysian people.

Doesn't that just brighten your day?!

If not, you can go to hell you cold-hearted monster ^_^

Kids, now those are some peeps who know about peace. Not a care in the world and completely innocent- the perfect choice to deliver this message. Sometimes we get too mixed up in our daily lives to remember what makes us human.

Parkour's "Monkey King"

Not gonna lie. I was extremely tempted to never write another article again just to keep Dichen's picture and post at the top of the page, (the site looks so nice with it there!) but the show must go on especially for...

"The Indian Monkey King"

The guy in this video is a self taught practitioner of the sport "Parkour" aka jumping and climbing in a Spider-man like fashion. They got his whole story in the video. Apparently, he wants to teach kids to get his country world-renowned in the sport. An Asian with bizarre skills and a heart of gold!

Spidey-sense is tingling. m00g00.

Doll of your dreams

If you are not watching Fox's show Dollhouse...Start. Now. At least just watch to see the lovely Dichen Lachman! (above)

If you know Joss Whedon's stuff- Dollhouse is right up there with Buffy and Astonishing X-Men. Still not convinced? How about a show that has to do with a large corporation where you can hire "dolls" that can have any personality programmed in them to accomplish any task you're willing to pay for. Anything from espionage to rescue missions or just a night of fun you'll never forget. Did I mention the rogue doll who's on the loose and has already massacred numerous people?

Dichen plays the role of Sierra, one of the dolls in the dollhouse. The dolls are actual people who had their minds wiped (supposedly) and are now under contract of the "house". Like the others, her past is vaguely explained and we are not sure as to why she decided to become a doll. Yes, it is voluntary (supposedly). Sierra gets to be all types of fun characters though, like bank robber extraordinaire Taffy. Watch her kick some ass and you'll fall in love.

Dichen is of Australian and Tibetan decent (hooray for hybrids!) and was a soap star in Australia before she got her stint on Dollhouse. She is gaining a lot of popularity and will hopefully make a big name for herself along with the show.

Dollhouse Season 2 premieres September 25th at 9/8c so check it out! A link to the season one dvd is at the bottom of the page.

If you want to get more info on Dichen try this currently updating fan page: http://dichenlachman.org/

This is one case where playing with dolls is "a-ok". m00g00.

Debbie Lee contestant on "The Next Food Network Star" just misses the final two

Debbie is a contestant on "The Next Food Network Star" who fuses Korean and Southern cooking styles. I honestly had my money on Debbie winning before she got kicked off. Why?

Because Debbie has a flair to her. She cooked well. She had an interesting approach with the fusion of two tastes, and she represented a side that Food Network has failed to properly portray- Asian cooking and culture. She may not be the best reality TV contestant, but she has a great concept and the skills behind her to do something with it.

Food Network in my opinion is trying too much to be like MTV. It used to be about cooking and now its got this reality TV spin on it. (And I don't like it!) They used to have the real Iron Chef and now they have Iron Chef: America (which blows). I don't know if my boys Martin Yan or Ming Tsai were ever on Food Network, but as far back as I can remember they weren't. The audience of Food Network, perhaps, is just not diverse enough yet.

The final two breakdown: Melissa is just way to frantic (who represents the home cook) and cliché. Jeffrey looks like he should be in a folk band, and is kind of boring. But hey, as with most reality TV shows, it isn't always the winner who ends up getting the best gig or becoming the most popular. Melissa is better than Jeffrey though- IMO.

Best of luck to Debbie in the future and to hopefully keep spreading the lovely joy of fusion Asian cooking (we'll be getting the whole world to eat noodles eventually!)

Sinh Tho Nguyen walks across America

Some of you may be wondering who Mr. Nguyen is. He is not a movie star or music artist. He is just a man with drive, desire, and determination who has a goal set and a purpose behind it.

"I owe to America so much, and I don't have any talent at all," Nguyen said. "I have two legs and a heart. So I decided to walk across America to give thanks to her." -Nguyen

It's hard for me to imagine having that type of patriotism. He doesn't necessarily fit the "look" as to what most believe is an "American". Maybe because I know that- that's why I don't care as much. Maybe thats why so many minorities feel separated or non-American (even if they were born here). They figure the odds are against them, but they can still get their piece of the pieeven if they are not given credit as part of the group. I think America to a lot of people, has become a tool rather than a home, even today.

How many people really think about how patriotic they are? Half the time it seems the news or media is disagreeing with America's decisions. But why can't we always feel united? What makes John Smith more American then Nguyen?

I think what makes this special is that our view of American is often so clouded. Nguyen is an Army and National Guard veteran. He loves America. He is walking across it in memory of those who served.

It's poetic. It's powerful. It's humbling.

And it doesn't matter what color you are to feel that. If you live here you are in debt to feel that way. And I'm glad an Asian can show our country that we can feel this type of respect and honor as well.

Carry the flag Sinh Tho Nguyen. m00g00.

Who would kick Conan O' Brien's ass?! Steven Ho that's who!

In case you missed these...This is Steven Ho.

I was quite a big fan of Conan O'Brien and his show before, but now I'm a big fan of Steven Ho as well. They have this funny chemistry. Maybe that's why he is the first repeat guest since Conan took over The Tonight Show.

Basically, Steven gives Conan a taste of stuntman work with martial arts and props and then hilarity ensues.

Steven Ho is an accomplished martial artist known for his work in various films and with stars like Jet Li, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and company-see here. Ho has had a career of much reach including teaching of the arts, stunt work, directing, acting, and interior design. Wait what?

Ho has taken the behind the scenes role of Hollywood and rose past it to become a name of front-man caliber. Another Asian who is just the best at what they do.

Tonight Show regular? m00g00.

The Karate Kid remake?!

Yep, a remake of the Karate Kid with Will Smith's son as the 'kid' and Jackie Chan as the 'miyagi'. Could be pretty sweet...I mean, Jackie Chan has made some pretty appealing movies that have universal humor and appeal to them. I just hope in the film there are not cliché asian stereotypes running around and actual puts our culture in good light. I mean for the 80's the Karate Kid made kung fu cool.

Get him a body bag! m00g00.

Asian whirlwind!

Breakdancing is pretty hard and this kid is...AMAZING!

When I was about yay big...I was such a waste of life. I couldn't do cool stuff like that! I was off watching Power Rangers or something...

At least its not gymnastics! m00g00.

Asian girls and interracial relationships

An oldie, but goodie. On my mind today, on the loveliest of days, a still plaguing question...Why is it that Asian girls can be paired up with every color of the skittles rainbow, but we Asian dudes can't?

Are we just not as appealing?

Is it society that boosts the value of the Asian woman?

If this is so is it a self depreciating reason as to why Asian woman are appealing like meekness?

I mean think of all the universally accepted sexy Asian woman out there? An endless list and it wouldn't take an Asian to write it, BUT a sexiest Asian male list? I would probably have to write that and post it up myself...

Wong Fu Productions released one of the most truthful and all-encompassing summaries of our struggle as Asian dudes. Today they run their own t-shirt and online production company. I'm sure now they have less girl problems ;) Thanks for giving our cries of help a voice! Very cool stuff indeed.

Asian males need love to. m00g00.
