Islamic comic heroes soon to join Batman and Superman?!

I'm a HUGE comic book fanboy. Just want to throw that out there for any potential ladies who be crushin' on your daily m00g00 author. Shattered dreams.

So today's news has to do with comics at the international level. Comic superheroes are some of the most recognizable icons in the world. The mythology is universal. All cultures have "superman's"-gods and goddesses in folk lore and even religion. Now take all these ideas and combine it into one comic series. You would get: The Ninety Nine

Above is Dr. Naif Al-Mutaw, creator of "The 99" comic series, a comic book based on the 99 attributes of Allah. Teshkeel comics, Al-Mutaw's publishing company, is responsible for bringing the comic medium to the Arab world. The 99 being its most famous publication has religious roots, but appeals to universal virtues as each character comes from a different country and has no distinct religious affiliation. Think the Avengers except with 99 members. Wicked.

This comic has a lot to be proud of. Bringing a foundation of virtue into a comic series. Bringing a medium of entertainment unfamiliar to many regions of the world until now. And now a cross cultural cameo between American heroes and their Islamic counterparts.

DC comics has announced a mini-series to be launched featuring the 99 cast meeting DC characters.

Dr. Naif Al-Mutaw has said that the comic book aims at teaching its readers through the diversity of its characters the value of teamwork and tolerance. For two parts of the world seen mostly to have conflict, the collaboration can be seen as a step towards this tolerance. A metaphor of peace.

With great power comes great responsibility.  m00g00.
